About Us
OUR STORY
The Sun Prairie Wellness Coalition, formed in November 2021, is a community driven group of passionate residents and local partners coming together to improve wellness in our city. We know substance use is prevalent, stigma prevents mental health from being openly discussed, and that currently there is a gap in education and awareness as to what this means to our community. We have come together to engage the community to take action, provide training and education, and advocate for those impacted.
Mission
The Sun Prairie Wellness Coalition creates and supports opportunities that prevent and reduce youth substance use and foster physical, social, and emotional health.
Vision
Sun Prairie is a healthy and thriving community.
Values
Engage the Community to understand Priority Issues & Needs
Acknowledge Social Determinants of Health
Recognize the Importance of being Trauma-Informed
Embed Health & Racial Equity Strategies throughout our Process
Current Initiatives
Youth Mental Wellness: Work on engagement efforts such as focus groups and student leadership, specifically geared toward youth in Sun Prairie. These efforts will be aimed at providing education, awareness, and reducing stigma.
Community Education & Training: Plan town hall sessions and training opportunities that will engage and empower both adults and youth. These sessions may include a meal or snack, childcare and/or transportation to reduce barriers to attendance.
Mental Health Stigma Reduction: Plan a Sun Prairie-wide call to action campaign during the month of May in both 2023 and 2024. This is a call to embrace the mental health conversation and break free from the pattern of exclusion and silence. This initiative will create opportunities for our residents and community partners to tear down systemic and social barriers to mental health.
Substance Use/Misuse: This initiative will focus on 2-3 areas of substance use/misuse concern in our community. Work may include community education and awareness, events, advocacy, and policy impact.
